This is a short and somewhat impromptu wrap-up/cool-down from yesterday. I think our regular guys (Team Sollengberger) are still away. I made a short stopover in the PM to try and finish my AM workout from N.J. A nice turnout at the track on a sunny but breezy night. Lots of our runners working together including Bill/Becca/Jason, Brenda/Denise and Daniel/ Nathan. Also good to see Cody and Jay pushing each other along in their quest for more speed.
The Trials of Miles.. continue through the Summer and Autumn running goals lie ahead.

Running quote of the week: “Like the mythical Pavo Nurmi, he was going to be a marathon man; anyone could be that if they just devoted their life to running. No, he was going to be THE marathon man. That, plus an intellect of staggering accomplishment coupled with an unequaled breadth of knowledge, the entire mixture bounded up by a sense of modesty as deep as it was sincere”.

This week’s running read:
“Marathon Man” – a novel by William Goldman c. 1974
I am not sure if William Goldman actually coined this often-used term for the title of the book but a classic nonetheless. The main character is a Ph.D. grad student at Columbia who spends much of his free time running around New York City. Some crazy life circumstances lead to involvement with Nazi war criminals and stolen jewelry. If you are not a reader then check out the 1976 film version (same name) with Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Olivier – some great running footage in Central Park and a classic dental chair scene.
