The last workout Tuesday for July is now in the books. Our morning group(with Walt back) got the 3200/1600/-2×800/4×400 workout done with excellent sharing of the respective laps. Evan and Brian M also completed this workout a bit earlier, both putting in solid solo efforts. For the PM session – a large contingent of our runners headed off-track over to the Clayton loop for mile repeats/ timed 6 min intervals or a 5 x 1 mile progression tempo – all done (via Strava) at impressive mid to low 5-minute pace. Scott, Jeremy and a few others got their work down on the track and it was good to see Duncan back after another short health setback… and upon the return from the Clayton loop it was… Happy 50th Birthday to Jay McMillan and FINALLY a welcome to a new age group. Jay is now officially a fast AF quadragenarian and has a beer to prove it! As Jay competes against the 51–59-year-old guys at races over the next year, BIG things are expected.
The beer consumption as part of the celebration was finally robust and 100% complete (30 + IPAs, Helles lagers, 8 PBRs, and 6 hard seltzers) while celebrating with him and his supportive and loving running spouse, Denise. Team Pearson (Tommy/Erica) from Lititz also participated in the evening event with Evelyn practicing her long-jump approach under the skillful eye of her father/coach.
Kudos to the sharp eyes of Dan Nephin of LNP fame who spotted an error on the OAR quote – which certainly changes the meaning – he is contemplating serving as my (much needed) weekly editor but we are still negotiating the pay.
Running quote of the week: In track, it is all there in black and white. Many runners can’t take that kind of pressure; the ego withers in the face of the evidence. We all carry our little credentials around with us – that is why the numbers are so important to us, why we are always talking about them.” Once A Runner – Chapter 10 – “Demons”
